We are a group of smart, dedicated and passionate people. We created The Vanguard so we could be intentional about channeling those attributes into something as important as DE&I.
Who we are
The Vanguard is our employee-led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion board made up of agency members with a variety of experiences and backgrounds. We exist to engage the agency in diversity-related topics while coordinating and participating in company-wide workshops with outside facilitators.

Human resources

The Variable supports agency HR efforts at multiple levels, from reviewing internal practices and intentionally recruiting diverse talent for both full-time and intern roles to initiating employee-hiring training
Education

Education is at the heart of The Vanguard's effects, whether it be "Lunch & Learns," the quarterly newsletters or exploring different Diversity, Equity and Inclusion themes.
Programming

From an ongoing speaker series to cultural cooking classes. The Vanguard plans programming covering a broad range of topics pertinent to our industry, colleagues and community
Community outreach

TVA cares deeply about the Winston-Salem community — that's why The Vanguard engages with a variety of community organizations, from Winston-Salem State University and Ashley Academy to The Urban League of Winston-Salem.
Creative Campaigns

The Variable wants to use our creative powers for good! We employ our team to dream up and execute creative campaigns around social justice initiatives and movements, like Winston Votes, I'm Just ___ and The Forsyth County Mental Health Association.
